EVENTS & NEWS

At the heart of L&N is the passion to share the beauty, quality and contemporary possibilities of our re-loved world. Our barn events have been our link to our customers and a platform on which we can show you what we mean by curating the past for the present. Now our beautiful little shop and cafe are finally open…

THE BRILLIANT BREAKFAST

OCTOBER 23

In early October we threw open our doors to welcome our gorgeous customers to our Brilliant Breakfast at La Follia

We were raising funds for the incredible Prince’s Trust as part of a wonderful and much needed commitment to helping disadvantaged young women achieve what they deserve… jobs, experiences, better qualifications and the all-important self confidence that will give them a brighter future.

As part of a close, often privileged community, we were determined to raise as much as we could to help put a little spring in their future steps.

Our little cafe was filled laughter and a Brilliant Breakfast of Cornetti & Bellinis and the best coffee!

A little slice of Italian calazione.

These young women need and deserve our love and support.

Thank you so much from us all for taking part – Mariana, Lucy, Ols, Marie, Honor, Nicki, Dessy, Sophie, Anna O’K and Anna B x

“AUTUMN AWAITS” – L&N POP-UP SHOP & CAFE IN A BARN

November 2022

Autumn is an abundance of beauty. We turned our attentions inside and brought as much joy and richness to life as possible.

L&N thrive on the maximalist principal that more is more – capturing and sharing every ounce of our passion for pieces from the past. We do however curate, and our goal for Autumn was to simplify and guide you through our world.

We invited you to join the re-love movement, finding new life in things from before, showing you the possibilities of how these things work in contemporary life and inspire you to join us.

This was our final event of the year and we pulled out all the stops to try and create something truly wonderful.

We can’t thank you enough for joining us – for us, it was hands down, the best yet.

WITHNAIL AND L&N

November 2022

In February 2022 Bellman’s Auction house held a sale like no other…

The contents of a staggering house in Chelsea that belonged to the late Professor Bernard Nevill (1930 – 2019), the design director at Liberty during the 60s and 70s, and an inspirational textile designer and educator at the Central School of Art and Design from 1957-60 and then at the Royal College of Art and St Martin’s School of Art from 1959-74.

West House was designed in 1868 by the Arts-and-Crafts architect Philip Webb, it was bought in 1970 by Nevill, who spent decades perfecting the interiors. He filled the lavish rooms with staggering pieces by famous furniture makers such as Howard & Sons and Holland & Sons, tapestries, silks and classical sculptures.

It was also the setting for the iconic scene from Bruce Robinson’s 1987 cult classic ‘Withnail and I’, where Uncle Monty (played by the late great Richard Griffiths) delivers his fantastic “The carrot has mystery” speech to the two protagonists, Richard E Grant and Paul McGann.

Nevill’s eclectic ensemble is now the epitome of country house style and Bellman’s action rooms were transformed into a magnificent sweetshop of faded grandeur.

We just had to go and see if we could procure a little piece of interior and film history.

The auction was electric – we fought hard to buy, but the estimates were blown out of the water. However, fortune does favour the brave, and we managed to snaffle one beautiful little 19th Century mahogany side table by Holland & Son, which will be gracing our humble pop-up in November.

It was the icing on our Autumn 22 cake.

“SUMMER SYMPHONY” – L&N POP-UP SHOP & CAFE IN A BARN

June 2022

Hot on the heals of our incredible RHS Chelsea Flower Show journey, we popped up for Summer in our beautiful barn.

Stars of the event were all the beautiful pieces we foraged to style the magnificent greenhouses of Alitex + The Pig Hotel, along side the alfresco tablescapes we created for the grand furniture of Gaze Burvill and their beautiful garden designed by Ann-Marie Powell.

Because we only pop-up our destination shop 3 times a year, each of our Summer, Autumn and Winter events mean the world to us – our passion and obsession.

Summer 22 brought a symphony of re-loved objects for your homes & gardens – a conducted mix of colour, texture and design.

L&N x Earth To Oven

Our bookable lunch was a little different for summer – ollaborating with the fabulous local food artisans, Earth to Oven, to create a simple South-East Asian inspired menu, using locally sourced, seasonal produce.

Our love for the finds we curate is even more than a passion – it’s a belief the three of us share. We believe that everyone should use as much of what already exists in the world as possible. Our mission is to make these beautiful pieces from the past, accessible to all, so they can enjoy them as much as we do.

See you in October, and we’ll show you how we do it.

CELEBRATING IN STYLE – THE RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW

23rd to 28th May 2022

Last September we were invited to collaborate on Alitex‘s sustainability inspired greenhouse magnificence at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

It was a dream come true and a moment we will never forget.

So you can imagine our over excitement when we got the call from Nelly, inviting us to come back this year and help them, as they collaborate with The Pig Hotels (recreating the convivial vibe of the Pig’s iconic botanical bars) to celebrate Alitex’s incredible 60th Chelsea Anniversary and 70th Birthday – along side some pretty awe-inspiring people!

Wonderful Photographs by Julia Currie.

Ann-Maries Powell x Gaze Burvill

Our wonderful friend and award winning garden designer Ann-Marie Powell has once again commissioned us to create an alfresco tablescape for the incredible bespoke oak furniture of Gaze Burvill at the show.

Her design celebrates our relationship with nature – the huge importance of provenance of materials and the idea of using our gardens as outdoor living spaces.

We wanted to create a scene reminiscent of the hill sides of Italy – long lazy alfresco lunches and families gathered to feast and chatter. Imagine an oasis of greens with splashes of pink… light dancing through delicate Empoli glass – playful majolica and bold botanical mid century platers, ladened with flame scorched peppers, dreamy mozzarella and sun kissed tomatoes…

It’s a one hell of a show!

“IT’S COLD OUTSIDE” – L&N POP-UP SHOP IN A BARN

December 2021

The evenings may be darker, the walks may be wetter. Our coats may be thicker, and our noses may be colder… but Sunday roasts are calling, and our firesides are glowing, so let’s snuggle up in blankets and make lots of lists for loved ones, and dream of twinkling lights and Christmas!

It’s still our favourite time of the year.

We filled our big, beautiful barn with precious pieces from the past, championing re-loving and a sustainable season’s greeting. It was full of winter shopping wonder and food to warm your heart.

Thank you all for making it incredible. L&N x

L&N HARVEST POP-UP SHOP IN A BARN

October 2021

Harvest home is absolutely where our heart is.

It’s a celebration of the simple pleasures in life. The spirit of natural beauty, individuality, reinvigoration and the mellow fruitfulness of time invested.

We brought nature inside with abundance. Returning to our roots – championing craftsmanship – valuing longevity and celebrating quality.

Thoughtful sustainable life and pieces made to last. Valued quality – not disposable fast furniture.

William Morris wisely said – “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” … we’d just like to make a small addition – “and made to last”

So true.

GOING GREEN WITH ALITEX – THE RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW

Sept 21st 2021

Alitex is one of those unassuming giants who quietly but brilliantly do incredible things. If you catch site of a staggering greenhouse, it’s quite probably one of theirs. They build sanctuaries that dreams are made of.  When we grow up we want ten!

Right at the start of our L&N journey, Nelly borrowed a few pieces of ours to help set the scene for one of their shoots – our relationship blossomed and this summer we helped her set the scene for a couple of fabulous projects that introduced us to super talented @selinalake

Now, a few of our dreams have come true, because Nelly and Selina have asked us to collaborate with them to bring a little mix-century to the #rhschelseaflowershow

Thank you for bringing us on your journey we literally can’t wait.

AND THE LIVING IS EASY – POP-UP SHOP IN A BARN

JUNE 2021

The sun rose on re-loved outdoor life and our first summer pop-up shop. Everyone put away their winter woollies and padded down to the barn on the farm for the start of Summer and easy living.

Our L&N cafe was in full summer swing with simply delicious food inspired by Sabrina Ghayour’s Feasts, sumptuous farm-made cakes.

We had a few special guests at the barn – cupcake perfection from Joey Bakes, the best organic coffee from out great friends at HOST, delicious bubbling soft drinks from Hartridges and a special wall feature from the fabulous M&L paints.

Eclectic style that oozes true mix-century sustainable living and 4 days we will never forget… a huge thank you to everyone who joined us

FURNITURE UNWRAPPED, POP-UP SHOP IN A BARN

December 2020

We were determined to make the most of Christmas Present.. although we presented a slightly scaled down version this year, no café sadly, we did our utmost to create some L&N magic.

The pop-up was a great way of sharing our bigger re-loved pieces – furniture, lights, carpets etc along with a beautifully curated light dusting of our most recent, rather special smaller finds.

It was incredible to see everyone. Talk face to face, laugh, reminisce. Probably the best decision we made all year.

A huge thank you to every one who joined us. What a treat.

WINTER WONDER POP-UP SHOP IN A BARN

December 2019

All our pop-ups are set against the stunning backdrop of a true working barn. It’s hard to describe how beautiful the light is – magical is just about the only word that really does it justice.

Winter Wonder was brimming over with sparkling crystal and pine filled planters, deep tones of vintage wood, linens, glass and silver.

Old kitchen ware that has now gone beyond mere usefulness, attaining a new level of ‘beautiful object’. Age old linens with decades of use in them still, lovingly dyed, restitched or just reimagined.

The barn was filled with coloured china so vivid or lines so clean or decoration so delicate, that you just couldn’t stop looking at them. You see we just love these inanimate objects. It’s not just a passion, it’s a way of seeing beauty in the everyday.

LAST RAYS OF SUMMER, POP-UP RESTAURANT IN A BARN

L&N X THK  Sept 2019

This was our second restaurant experience where everything the diners were surrounded by, ate at, on and with, was Lamb & Newt… and what an incredible weekend of fire and feasting it was. A huge thank you to Will, Dan and Micheal from the mighty Herb Kitchen, for treating us all to the most stunning ingredients and fire fuelled cooking.

One gorgeous customer asked why we go through all this trouble for just two nights of dining experience? To be honest, it’s because it’s an incredible way of telling our story – showing people how the past really can be contemporary – it’s simply a matter of mixing the right ingredients. The look on people’s faces as they enter the barn says it all. Thank you thank you for coming and making it the best yet.

Photographs by the super talented @kaygumbrell – you totally captured our world.
